Captain elected to USA Hall of Fame

Former USA 2YO and 3YO Pacer of the Year and now boom sire CAPTAINTREACHEROUS has joined an elite list of standardbreds to be inducted into the US Living Horse Hall of Fame.

A son of champion racehorse and sire SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE, a Living Horse Hall of Fame member himself, ‘THE CAPTAIN’ earned $3,148,657 in a 33-start career which included 23 wins and seven placings and took a lifetime mark of 1:47.2 as a three-year-old.

At two, CAPTAINTREACHEROUS won eight of his 10 starts and $918,253 and was named USA Pacer of the Year as well as North American 2YO Pacing Colt of the Year, while at three he banked a season’s high $2,055,033 winning 13 of his 16 starts and was named the USA Pacer of the Year and USA 3YO Pacing Colt of the Year.

At stud ‘THE CAPTAIN’ has made a huge impact with his first crop of two-year-olds racing in 2018. He was clearly the leading juvenile sire in North America with 84 two-year-old starters from 113 foals and two-year-old progeny earnings of $3.3 million.

He sired 10 winners of over $100,000, 56 race winners, 53 in 2:00, 37 in 1:55 and four in 1:50 or faster including the Breeders Crown champion and 2YO Colt of the Year CAPTAIN CRUNCH p,2,1:49.1 ($616,113) and the outstanding filly TALL DRINK HANOVER p,2,1:50 ($362,414).

SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE, his sire, left the winners of $22.7 million in 2018 and $23.9 million in 2017 to become the only sire ever to leave the winners of over $20 million in consecutive seasons. SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE was the leading North American sire in 2018 of three-year-old performers and earnings by a wide margin.

CAPTAINTREACHEROUS will be represented by 42 yearlings from his first Australian crop selling at the forthcoming round of APG sales, while ‘BEACH’ has 43 colts and fillies at the sales.
