Gold for Lochinvar Art

Gold for Lochinvar Art

MODERN ART’S brilliant son LOCHINVAR ART tasted Group 1 glory for the first time when he comfortably dismissed a strong field in the $104,000 Bathurst Gold Chalice on Friday night (March 29).

A dual Derby placegetter, the colt began from inside the back row and was second last on settling down.

Angled three-wide by David Moran at the 1300 metre mark, LOCHINVAR ART was sent forward to race upsides with the leader for the last one-and-a-quarter lap.

LOCHINVAR ART put his rivals to the sword with a 28.1 third quarter, spearing to the front and opening up a two lengths lead.

He paced boldly to the line, running the final fraction in 28 as he careered away to score by 12.3 metres.

The mile rate for the 2260 metres was a slick 1:54.5.

It was his seven success at Group level – he won the Group 2 Edgar Tatlow as a two-year-old.

The $50,000 winner’s cheque increased his lifetime bankroll to $236,840, the result of 10 wins and nine placings from 19 starts.

From a mare by Ponder, Lochinvar Art was bred by Peter and M. M. Green, M. A. Morris and Daniel Cordina.

The colt is owned by Kevin Gordon and is trained by Laura Crossland and David Moran.
