Lochinvar Art takes NSW Derby heat

Talented MODERN ART colt LOCHINVAR ART, a placegetter in the Victoria Derby, was a most impressive winner of a NSW Derby heat at Menangle on Saturday night (February 23).

Starting from the wide No. 8 gate, the colt was forced to lead the outside division in the early part before assuming control at the 1800 metre mark. He was never afterwards headed.

Maintaining a solid tempo in the vanguard, LOCHINVAR ART zipped home his last 800 in 54.8 to easily keep his rivals at bay. His mile rate of 1:54.5 for 2400 metres was a new lifetime mark. The colt has notched eight wins from 16 outings for $161,840 in stakes.

Out of a mare by Ponder, LOCHINVAR ART was bred by Peter and M. M. Green, M. A. Morris and Daniel Cordina. He is owned by Kevin Gordon.

Earlier in the night, MONIVAE, a gelding by MODERN ART, led throughout to post his 19th win at Albion Park. The brown rated 1:57 for the 1660 metres with the last 800 in a nippy 56.6.

From a Panorama mare, MONIVAE was bred by Don Spedding and Matthew Harris. He is raced by M. R. Moss, R. J. Giometti, A. Moujalli, M. Ma, P. and R. W. Randall, M. Jones and D. Murray.

LOCHINVAR ART was one of four MODERN ART winners just this weekend and his win pushes the sire's Australian progeny earnings well past the $19.6M mark.
