Modern Art doubles up at Menangle

MODERN ART took the siring honours at Menangle on Saturday night (August 26) with a winning double with DESDON MURRUFFY (1:53.6) and the two-year-old filly MADAME LEZA (1:55).

DESDON MURRUFFY, who started from the wide No 8 gate, pinged straight to the front and maintained a solid tempo with sectionals of 27.2, 30.4, 28 and 28. The gelding held on gamely to win by a neck. It was his 19th lifetime success and boosted his stake tally to $162,184.

Out of a Smooth Fella mare, DESDON MURRUFFY was bred by Erin Murphy, K. M. Parry and L. D. and P. J. Duffy and is owned by Spiros Calligeros.

MADAME LEZA made it four from eight and earned a new lifetime mark with her brave, fighting success. Trapped wide early, the bay filly worked to the lead, then handed up before regaining the top inside the final furlong. She clung on bravely to win by a head from the fast finishing UNCLE RYAN (by DAWN OFA NEW DAY).

Bred by Jennifer Moon, MADAME LEZA is out of a mare by Lislea. She is owned by D. M. and M. A. Hewitt.
