Modern Art off to a flier

MODERN ART has made a great start to the new season with six winners in three different States. They include the Albion Park winners POMPIDOU (1:54.9), GANGSTER BOY (1:55.4) and DIESEL SHANNON (1:57.1).

POMPIDOU, who earned a new career mark, has won 13 races and just shy of $100,000. Out of a Die Laughing mare, the gelding was bred by A. S. Smith, R. O. Woods and M. W. Gardiner, who share ownership with D. L. Woods, D. E. Smith, R. C. Kruk, C. B. Gardner and V. A. Hogan.

GANGSTER BOY, who led most of the way, has now won 24 races and $140,860 in stakes. Out of a D M Dilinger mare, the gelding was bred by Dave Farrar and G. W., A. L. and K. L. White. He is raced by D. M. McMullen and R. J. Veivers.

DIESEL SHANNON, who also earned a new speed badge, posted his 17th win and advanced his stakes tally to $80,427. Out of a mare by Troublemaker, the black gelding was bred by Rayngold Pty Ltd and is owned by W. T. Edgerton, J. W. Hetherington, T. Wren and A. Harris.

Other MODERN ART winners for the week were ART PREVAILS (Yarra Valley), DON KEE (Young) and SPECIAL THOUGHTS (Redcliffe).

ART PREVAILS, who led throughout, has won nine races and almost $70,000. From an Armbro Operative mare, the brown gelding was bred by M. Butera, S. Pamouktsis and M. Caruso and is owned and trained by Bruce Kennedy.

DON KEE, who won for the seventh time, was bred by Dennis Waller out of a Stature mare. The bay gelding is raced by Taylah Henman.

SPECIAL THOUGHTS, an end-to-end winner at Redcliffe, has won nine races and $56,542. From a daughter of Christian Cullen, the mare was bred by Raboki Pty Ltd and is owned by Steve Waterhouse.
