Mr Sharkey shines in the West

MIGHTY MR SHARKEY, a New Zealand-bred gelding by FOUR STARZZZ SHARK, notched his third win from his last five starts in Western Australia and sent his stake earnings over the $50,000 mark when he emerged successful at Gloucester Park on Friday night (September 8).

After being forced wide in the early part, the brown gelding was sent to the front 600 metres from the dispatch point. He was never again headed.

Cutting the last 800 in 56.3, MIGHTY MR SHARKEY was untroubled to score by 3.2 metre. The mile rate for the 2130 metres was 1:58.3.

The winner of eight of his 20 starts, MIGHTY MR SHARKEY is out of a Christian Cullen mare. He is owned by Skye Bond and Robert Gartrell.

One night earlier, APACHE SHARK, a ‘SHARK’ entire, made it four from his last five with a runaway success at Bendigo.

Leading for the last half of the 2150 metres contest, the bay entire carved out his last 800 in 56.9. The overall mile race was 1:58.4.

Now the winner of eight of his 13 starts, APACHE SHARK was bred by P. J. and A. L. Kiel from a Pacific Fella mare. He is owned by A. K., P. J., A. L. and W. L. Kiel, G. Hunt and G. and G. Crisp.

Meanwhile, MARZZZ BARZZZ BAZZ, a ‘SHARK’ gelding, overcame an early mistake and a torrid passage to chalk up win No 9 at Port Pirie in an equal lifetime mark of 1:57.2.

Bred by Geoff Easom, the bay gelding is from a mare by Waverly Niatross. He is raced by S. M. and C. J. Fitzgerald and M. J. Darling.
