The end-to-end win of two-year-old debutante ROCLEA STAR at Newcastle on Friday night (February 15) vaulted his sire PET ROCK into the lead in this season’s 2YO Sire Premiership.

PET ROCK has left four individual two-year-old winners from six starters. ROCLEA STAR, who fought back gamely when challenged in the final stages, covered the mile in 1:58 .2. The brown colt reeled of the last two fractions in 28.8 and 28.9.

Out of a Presidential Ball mare, ROCLEA STAR was bred by A. M. Smith and S. and M. Brown and is raced by C. S. and R. Roberts. Thirty minutes earlier the PET ROCK three-year-old filly SHEEZA MALTEEZA soundly trounced her rivals in a blazing 1:56.8 to post her third lifetime success.

From a mare by Jenna’s Beach Boy, SHEEZA MALTEEZA was bred by Sloy’s Company Pty Ltd and is owned by Margo Xerri.
