WA Derby success for Rocknroll son

Tough ROCKNROLL HANOVER colt KING OF SWING notched his second win at Group 1 level when he outstayed his opposition in the $200,000 WA Derby at Gloucester Park on Friday night (April 6).

After being restrained at the start, the bay colt settled midfield in the running line before being forward three-wide to sit in the ‘death’ for the last two laps.

Despite his torrid passage, KING OF SWING gained the upper hand in the closing stages and fought off the fast finishing BECHERS BROOK (by SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE) to win by a head.

The mile rate for the 2536 metres was a slick 1:57.

The winner of the Breeders Crown at 2, KING OF SWING has won seven of his 14 starts and $229,251 in stakes.

Bred by Ken Breckon in New Zealand, KING OF SWING is out of an Artsplace mare.

He is owned by B. V. Richardson, Mark Congerton, Go Racing, K. A. Hall, G. L. Moore, S. D. MacGregor and R. and F. Patriarca.
