Brilliant New Zealand filly Captains Mistress (Captaintreacherous) was outstanding in taking out the $52,000 Group 3 Ladbrokes Redcliffe Oaks on Saturday evening.

In a cracking harness racing field Captain’s Mistress who only recently joined Grant Dixon’s stables was on the outside of the second row. Her driver in New Zealand Nathan Williamson made the trip to Queensland to partner the filly in his debut at the tricky Redcliffe circuit.
It helped when Williamson had a drive earlier in the night on Arkin Wicked to acquaint himself with Redcliffe.
Favourite Soho Americano held the lead for driver Luke McCarthy but in a fast run race she was inclined to over race. Star Queensland filly Cool and Classy was three wide early but driver Grant Dixon pressed on to race outside the leader.
Captains Mistress was back at the rear of the field but she unleashed a powerful burst along the back straight. Ruby Rules followed her but so fast was Captains Mistress travelling that she raced to the front. She then fought off a determined challenge from Ruby Rules to score a convincing win with Cool and Classy eleven metres away in third.
Nathan Williamson stated after the event. “I have been touch with Grant the whole time she’s been over here. Obviously he’s got a great group of fillies himself and I was just happy to come over and its worked well. Grant’s got a major resume he’s done a super job with her she looks terrific and she raced accordingly.
She was two year old filly of the year last year in New Zealand. She won the big Group 1 before she come over. There’s no better than her in New Zealand she’s equal of any and she’s measured over here great as well. She’s a consummate professional she’ does everything perfect so just a pleasure to be around with.”
Captains Mistress will now be set for the Group 1 $150,000 Queensland Oaks to be run on 19 July.
