Five solid winners for STAY HUNGRY this weekend – new winner Cardigan Jem (bred by Benstud) took a heat of the two-year-old Kindergarten Series on debut at Maryborough, Ravenous (Harry Capararo) represented a new three-year-old winner at Northam, at Dubbo Stay Strong (M McCafrey & C Tobin) went back-to-back, and there was a double at Gloucester Park with Hunger Strike (Kate Baring) hitting $199,000 in stakes and Beaudiene Hunter (David Kennedy) took a second consecutive victory.
CAPTAINTREACHEROUS claimed a treble led by Dreams Are Free (Studholme Bloodstock & M Jeffries) who took the 2026 Winton Cup, and followed by mare Astral Stride (E & M Stride) in 1:55.7 at Young and Arrive (John Polson) in 1:52.1 for three in a row at Albion Park.
TALL DARK STRANGER took a three-year-old double with a new winner at Redcliffe in Serenus (On Pace) and Ebonezy (G, D & R Cowie) taking a heat of the Southern Oaks at Winton.
We also saw the final yearlings of the season go through the sale ring at Melbourne and concluding an amazing year for BULLDOG HANOVER who had nine lots go through for eight sold at an average of $50,000! CAPTAINTREACHEROUS of course was well represented again with his 40 sold lots setting an average of over $88,000. A colt from Splendour was STAY HUNGRY’s top lot in NZ at $90,000 of more than half a million of his progeny lots, and TALL DARK STRANGER stock averaged more than $33,000.
Congratulations to all vendors in 2026 who in total netted more than $4.85m.
