Bay Horse, 16 Hands
A stunning dark bay individual standing at 16 hands, BULLDOG HANOVER is one of the most exciting and best-performed stallions ever to be available in the Southern Hemisphere. BULLDOG HANOVER won four of six starts at two including a dominant 1:50.2 win in the $190,000 OSS Super Final. At three, BULLDOG captured many of the sport’s top stakes events earning nearly $700,000 and posting a new record of 1:48. BULLDOG’s propensity for speed was certainly evident this season as eight of his ten wins were under 1:50
But it was his four-year-old season that mesmerized the entire harness racing world! After beginning the year with three impressive wins in Canada, BULLDOG HANOVER crossed the border and headed to The Meadowlands in New Jersey. What happened in the next twenty-one days is the stuff legends are made of. BULLDOG won a leg of the Graduate Series in 1:47 with a sizzling :24.4 last quarter. The next week, BULLDOG was amazing in the Roll With Joe equalling the World Record of 1:46. Next up was an extraordinary gate-to-wire victory in 1:46.1 in the Graduate Series Final. One week later, BULLDOG forever etched his name in the history books when he bolted home in the $500,000 Haughton Memorial to stop the clock in an electrifying 1:45.4 to become the fastest standardbred of all time! In 2022, BULLDOG dazzled the industry pacing four of the nine fastest miles in history with six victories in 1:45.4 – 1:46.4 including the $810,000 Breeders Crown. He also banked $1,858,210 to lead all Standardbreds in earnings that year.
“He’s got unbelievable stamina – there is no end to him” said driver, NZ Hall of Famer Dexter Dunn. “I had no idea he was going to be able to win four starts in a row and put up the times he did, but when you sat behind him, he gave you every confidence that he could do it. With the fast times he was posting, usually after a mile it would be pretty easy to pull a horse up because they would be pretty tired – but not him! He wanted to go around again – I would love to see the quarter times he posted AFTER he crossed the wire. It’s amazing how good this horse s and how big a set of lungs he obviously has.”
With all of his record-shattering success, it’s no wonder BULLOG HANOVER became a household name in North America. With his charming personality and kind nature, BULLDOG loved the spotlight and quickly became a darling of the media. His trainer, Canadian Horse Hall of Famer Jack Darling, and his caretaker Johnny Mallia went above and beyond making the horse available for meet and greets and photo ops with his adoring fans. People travelled from near and far for the opportunity to see this extraordinary Champion and give him a pat or share a banana – his favourite treat.
BULLDOG retired at the end of this 4YO season and was the unanimous choice for the 2022 US Horse of the Year Honours – the first horse ever to garner ALL 136 votes. He was also the US Pacer of the Year, the Canadian Horse of the Year, the Bergstein Proximity Award Winner and the Cam Fell Award recipient, to name a few. In August of 2023, BULLDOG HANOVER will receive the pinnacle award of his career as he follows in his sire’s hoofprints and is enshrined into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.
BULLDOG HANOVER is bred in the purple and is a perfect outcross for most down under mares. His sire was a World Champion himself and has sired the winners of over $65 Million worldwide including the 2022 Inter Dominion Winner I Cast No Shadow, the $1 Million North America Cup Winner Desperate Man and the 2021 Meadowlands Pace Champion Lawless Shadow. His dam and grandam have left a combined 24 winners from 28 foals including two World Champions, a Meadowlands Pace Winner and a Little Brown Jug Champ.
